Botanical Embroidery Hoops – when metalsmithing meets the art of embroidery.
I have always loved this little tool, an embroidery hoop, for its simplicity and subtle beauty. It’s not just the fact that it can hold a fabric, which, when covered in stitches and colourful threads, becomes a little work of art. To me, this very wooden hoop has already looked like a piece of art by itself. I wanted to take this element, from the world of embroidery, and translate its shape into silver. I was curious how a crossover like this would look like. This a was a very exciting project, and today I’m delighted to offer you a result of this idea:
Iris Hoop with Amethyst.
It’s an original, one-of-a-kind pendant based on a hand drawn design.
Every little detail has been made by hand from a scratch and forged in sterling and fine silver.
This necklace features shiny, faceted Amethyst, purchased in a little gem and jewellery shop in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Despite multi-dimensional construction of the pendant and its pronounced weight, the necklace is not heavy and very comfortable to wear. The bail, which was made to look like the tension screw and nut is the only element of the pendant that moves freely.
The fabric pattern was created by hand, as well as the Iris flowers and leaves.
Chain: Sterling silver, spring ring clasp, adjustable 16'' - 18'' inches.
